Joshua Tree National Park is a popular destination, but local hiker Travis Puglisi shares his favorite less-crowded trails:
- Covington Flats: A long trail with diverse plant and animal life, geological formations, and historical remnants.
- Twin Tanks: A challenging, off-trail area with isolated rock formations, diverse flora, and fragile biological soil crusts.
- Mary Peak: A scramble with stunning views, featuring unique plant life like creosote bush.
A lot more people are visiting Joshua Tree National Park these days. Maybe you're one of them? Ranger Anna Marini formalized the park's Preventative Search and Rescue Program, one of the first in the national parks system to be overseen by a dedicated ranger. Her team seeks to educate people about how they can enjoy the park safely and avoid some common hazards and pitfalls.
